NATS is the UK's leading provider of air traffic control services. In a typical year pre-Covid, they handle over 2.5 million flights and 250 million passengers travelling over the UK and across the North Atlantic. If you’ve been a passenger on a commercial aircraft flying in UK airspace then it's highly likely that NATS have handled your flight. Outside of the UK NATS offers air traffic services to customers including airports, airlines, air traffic service providers and governments. They currently provide these across parts of Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The University of Westminster has been engaged in transportation research for over 50 years, with an extensive history of teaching, research and consultancy in aviation and air traffic management. We have coordinated and led work across 35 major European ATM research projects, primarily funded through SESAR, EUROCONTROL and the European Commission - carried out in collaboration with airlines, airports, ANSPs, software/service providers, and other research institutes. The Centre for Air Traffic Management Research specialises in applied/industrial research, performance assessment, intermodal applications, environmental impacts, economic analysis, (network) modelling and simulation, stakeholder consultation, data management, and emerging technologies. We have advised and consulted for industry and national government, serving on numerous international scientific committees and boards, and are funded across multiple SESAR 3 projects, including the Knowledge Transfer Network (Engage 2).
